DMK Chief MK Stalin Announces Party Overhaul, Increases Party Districts to 110

DMK president M K Stalin announced a major organizational overhaul during the party's executive committee meeting in Chennai on Saturday, admitting that internal structural failures contributed to the party's recent electoral losses.
Addressing the executive committee in what he termed a historic meeting, Stalin unveiled plans to restructure the party by introducing fixed tenures and age limits for leadership posts across all levels. To improve administration and distribute leadership responsibilities among more functionaries, the party is expanding its organizational districts from 77 to 110.
Stalin called on party members and office-bearers to undertake self-introspection following the election results. He urged cadre to discuss politics within their families and actively work to enroll hardworking new members into the party folds.
A significant focus of the restructuring involves regional units in urban areas, where the party sought to regain ground lost in recent assembly elections. Stalin noted that while many leaders retained their determination, fighting spirit, and principles, several had lost the ability to work collaboratively with fellow office-bearers.
Addressing internal rivalries within the ranks, Stalin criticized members who displayed cordiality toward political rivals while undermining their own colleagues out of fear of competition. He remarked that no party could grow in a district solely through a district secretary, nor could an election be won through an efficient MLA alone.
Stalin emphasized that the DMK's growth depended on every cadre member functioning actively and senior members welcoming younger entrants. He contrasted the DMK's protest-driven history with the current ruling administration, stating that the DMK was built on struggle rather than emerging without protests or a grounded organizational framework.
Reiterating the DMK's role as an active opposition force, Stalin stated that the party would continue fighting for the public's welfare and working toward a political comeback, pledging to represent the interests of all citizens, including those who voted for rival parties.
