DMK and AIADMK Accuse CM Vijay of Shielding Palani Mutt Land Scam Suspects

On Friday, opposition leaders from the DMK and AIADMK escalated their political attack against the TVK government in Chennai over an alleged Palani mutt land scam. Speaking from the DMK headquarters in Chennai, DMK legal wing joint secretary I Paranthamen accused Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's administration of actively shielding individuals involved in the controversial land deal.
According to Paranthamen, the entire episode points to a much larger conspiracy. He stated that there is suspected involvement of key power centres within the ruling TVK party.
The DMK leader raised serious concerns over how the government has handled the case, pointing to highly contradictory statements issued by different state departments. He noted that Registration Minister D Logesh Tamilselvan, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister S Ramesh, and the public prosecutor have all given conflicting accounts regarding the land registration.
Specifically, Paranthamen highlighted that HR&CE Minister S Ramesh claimed the registration of the Palani mutt land had been carried out "out of ignorance." Meanwhile, Registration Minister D Logesh Tamilselvan maintained that the registration was done in strict compliance with an existing court order.
Adding further contradiction, the state's public prosecutor informed the court that relevant reports and documents from the HR&CE department had actually been suppressed. The prosecutor stated that the registration of the land had been carried out under pressure.
Pointing to these discrepancies, Paranthamen questioned who had pressured the officials to register the land, alleging that highly influential persons within the ruling party were behind the move.
In tandem with the DMK's allegations, AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP I S Inbadurai strongly condemned the police action taken against the individuals who originally flagged the alleged land scam. The combined pressure from both opposition parties has intensified scrutiny on the TVK government's administrative transparency.
