Dhanush and Vetri Maaran Partner for New Mythological Film Thamizh Murugan
Actor Dhanush and filmmaker Vetri Maaran officially announced their fifth film collaboration, titled Thamizh Murugan, in Chennai on Friday, July 10, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a first look video, teasing an epic mythological scale for the upcoming project. This film marks the reunion of the highly successful actor-director duo, who have previously delivered critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Vada Chennai, and Asuran.
The newly released first look video offers a glimpse into the grand setting of the film. It features dramatic visuals of a battlefield where a man is seen riding on an elephant. As a charged-up background score builds intensity, the man is surrounded by a crowd of people. The teaser keeps the protagonist's face hidden, building anticipation for the mythological drama.
Sharing the first look video on social media, the makers introduced the project with a description of the central character: "The Eternal Protector, Warrior, THE KING & LEADER of the Thamizh people and lands."
The technical crew for Thamizh Murugan includes writer Arivumathi and music composer Sai Abhankkar. The film is being produced jointly by Dhanush’s production banner, Wunderbar Films, and Production Miles To Go. While the first look has generated significant interest, the makers have stated that more details regarding the rest of the cast and the film's plot are currently awaited.
In addition to Thamizh Murugan, Dhanush has a busy lineup of projects. He is set to star in the upcoming film Om, which is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15, 2026. Om features an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Naseeruddin Shah, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela. Dhanush was last seen on screen in Vignesh Raja’s action-thriller Kara and Aanand L Rai’s romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein.
Director Vetri Maaran is also actively working on other projects. He is currently filming Arasan, which stars Silambarasan TR in the lead role. Vetri Maaran's last directorial release was Viduthalai Part 2, which premiered in 2024.
