Deeban Lingesh Finishes as Top Wicket-Taker in TNPL With 17 Scalps

Vida Kovai Kings bowling all-rounder Deeban Lingesh emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) this season, finishing the tournament with 17 wickets across nine seasons of participation.

The 26-year-old bowler delivered key breakthroughs during powerplay overs for his side, earning the tournament's most dependable player award following a two-wicket performance in the final.

His campaign was highlighted by a standout display in the Qualifier 2 match against Trichy Grand Cholas. Handed the ball for the opening over by captain M Shahrukh Khan, Lingesh claimed a hat-trick and completed the over as a wicket-maiden.

The tournament marked a strong return for Lingesh, who missed the previous two TNPL editions due to recurring injuries, including an Anterior Talofibular Ligament (ATFL) issue and anterior impingement in his ankle. He worked on his line and length leading into the season after gaining the backing of the team management.

Lingesh's cricket career began after he moved from his home in Hosur at the age of 13. He was initially spotted by Level 1 coach Sivaprakash during selection trials held by the Krishnagiri District Cricket Association (KDCA). After progressing through school-level cricket, he faced difficulty securing game time in the First Division league.

He subsequently joined Second Division side Pristine CC, where coaches Subramania Siva and Prabhakar backed him to perform and help guide the team into the First Division. Lingesh continued to play through injuries before undergoing a month-long recovery program this year with personal trainer Dinesh Sadasivam and receiving guidance from mentor Selva Ganapathy.

Lingesh noted that his family's support played a critical role in keeping him focused on cricket during his recovery and development phases. Looking ahead, the all-rounder stated he intends to approach his future career progression by focusing on enjoying the game without putting undue pressure on himself.
