Dayanidhi Maran Questions Vijay over Delimitation and Mekedatu Dam

DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran has questioned Chief Minister Vijay’s stance on parliamentary delimitation and the Mekedatu dam issue while addressing reporters in Chennai.

Speaking to the media, Maran accused Vijay of altering his position after a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He noted that the state assembly had previously passed a unanimous resolution seeking to freeze the existing 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

“After passing a unanimous resolution in the state assembly seeking to freeze the existing 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, why did Vijay suddenly change his stand and seek fair delimitation after meeting Amit Shah? Has he changed alliances or is he scared of Amit Shah?” Maran asked.

Maran also questioned Vijay for not raising objections to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s remarks regarding cooperation between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over Cauvery water-sharing during the southern Chief Ministers’ conference.

“When D K Shivakumar spoke about cooperation in building the Mekedatu dam, why did the Tamil Nadu CM not utter even a word opposing it? Tamil Nadu’s rights cannot be compromised in the name of cooperation,” Maran said.

Maran emphasized that the DMK’s position on delimitation has remained steadfast, asserting that Tamil Nadu should not face any reduction in its representation in Parliament or the state assembly. He added that the state must not suffer even an iota of loss as a result of the delimitation process.
