CPM Leader P Shanmugam Criticises CM Vijay Over Assembly Remarks

In Chennai, CPM State Secretary P Shanmugam has strongly criticised Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, accusing him of using the Assembly floor for personal mudslinging, self-praise, and political score-settling rather than addressing critical governance issues.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Shanmugam took aim at the Chief Minister's reply on the police demand for grants. The CPM leader stated that Vijay completely dodged core law-and-order concerns that had been formally raised by members of the House.

Shanmugam took severe offence at Vijay mocking his predecessor MK Stalin over a broken jaw Stalin suffered during his detention under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency. He characterised the body-shaming remarks as irresponsible and unbecoming of a sitting Chief Minister.

The CPM leader further condemned Vijay for relying on Enforcement Directorate allegations to target opposition leaders, specifically naming Arvind Kejriwal and Pinarayi Vijayan. Shanmugam argued that central investigative agencies are being weaponised as political instruments.

Shanmugam stressed that the Assembly is funded by the tax money of ordinary citizens. He stated that wasting legislative time on personal attacks and self-praise rather than public welfare is completely unacceptable.
