CPI Urges Chief Minister Vijay to Focus on Law and Order on War Footing

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to focus on the state's law and order situation on a war footing. Speaking to reporters on Thursday in Chennai, CPI State Secretary M Veerapandian stated that the administration must prioritize public safety and crime prevention without any further delay.
The appeal was made on the sidelines of a statewide protest organized by the CPI in Chennai. The demonstration was held to condemn the recent price hikes in domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commercial LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, and compressed natural gas (CNG). During the demonstration, protestors raised slogans against the BJP-led central government, accusing it of failing to protect traders and hoteliers from the financial strain of these rising fuel prices.
Addressing the state administration's immediate responsibilities, Veerapandian emphasized that while Chief Minister Vijay could take his time to implement various poll promises, there should be no delay when it comes to securing law and order. He asserted that no time should be wasted in ensuring that safety is maintained.
To achieve this, Veerapandian called for proactive measures from law enforcement. He stated that the police force and the state intelligence department must be pressed into preventing crime incidents before they occur.
Furthermore, the CPI state secretary highlighted the need for a broader societal effort to address safety concerns. He stated that it is not just the responsibility of the government, but the entire Tamil community must come forward to prevent crimes against women and children.
The demonstration in Chennai put further political pressure on the state administration to prioritize and address pressing public safety concerns alongside economic issues. By linking the fuel price protest to the demand for better policing, the CPI highlighted the immediate need for administrative action.
