CPI Demands Fencing And Security To Protect Puzhal Lake From Pollution

On Monday, July 13, 2026, the Communist Party of India (CPI) urged the Tamil Nadu government to protect Puzhal Lake in Chennai by erecting a comprehensive fence and providing adequate security. The demand was raised by CPI State secretary M. Veerapandian, who highlighted the urgent need to safeguard the reservoir, which serves as one of Chennai's primary sources of drinking water.

The call for action came after Mr. Veerapandian conducted a personal inspection of the lake. Following his visit to the site, the CPI State secretary expressed deep concern and stated that he was shocked by the current condition of the reservoir.

Mr. Veerapandian emphasized that immediate measures must be taken by the state administration to prevent the vital water body from turning into a dumping ground. He also noted that the area has become a site for open defecation, which poses a significant threat to the quality of the drinking water supplied to the city.

To address these environmental and public health challenges, the CPI has demanded that a proper fence be constructed around the lake. Mr. Veerapandian stated that the installation of a comprehensive fence, combined with the deployment of adequate security personnel, is necessary to secure the area and prevent the dumping of waste and other forms of pollution.
