CPI Condemns DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan and TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna

The Communist Party of India (CPI) state executive committee in Chennai released an official statement on Saturday condemning both DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan and TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna for their recent controversial public remarks. The committee's statement urged all public representatives to uphold political decency amid an escalating war of words between the ruling TVK party and the principal opposition DMK.

The committee strongly criticized Radhakrishnan, who is a former minister and current DMK MLA, for making derogatory remarks regarding the personal life of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Radhakrishnan had made these controversial comments during a recent public meeting held in Tuticorin.

According to the CPI state executive committee's statement, while political parties in a democratic system have every right to criticize governments and each other’s policies, dragging the personal lives of political leaders into public discourse in a derogatory manner amounts to crossing the line.

Despite their criticism of his remarks, the committee stated that the police should have avoided taking coercive action against the DMK MLA. Radhakrishnan was arrested by police officers on Friday and was subsequently released on bail later that same day.

In the same statement, the CPI, which officially supports the ruling TVK government, also slammed PWD Minister Aadhav Arjuna for remarks he made during a party meeting. Arjuna had stated, “we will not leave the Karur incident without settling the score” with the DMK.

The CPI statement declared that such a retaliatory statement was entirely unacceptable and did not befit an individual holding a ministerial office. Arjuna had made the controversial remark during a party function on Thursday that marked the induction of former AIADMK ministers C. Vijayabaskar and M. R. Vijayabhaskar into the TVK.

Stressing the urgent need to preserve political civility and democratic values, the CPI state executive committee urged all individuals currently in public life to exercise strict restraint in their public speeches.
