Complainants Seek Relocation of South Chennai Cybercrime Police Station From Airport

Complainants visiting the South Chennai Cybercrime Police Station have urged authorities to relocate the facility out of the city airport premises, recommending that it be moved to a more accessible site such as Guindy or St Thomas Mount. Visitors from across south Chennai, including Adyar, stated that the station's current location forces them to pay airport toll and parking charges during every visit.

The South Chennai Cybercrime Police Station currently operates inside the airport complex, where it functions alongside the airport police station and the office of the assistant commissioner of police. Despite sharing space with these aviation-focused police offices, the cybercrime facility receives a significantly high number of daily visitors.

The station's jurisdiction spans across numerous police divisions in south Chennai. It regularly handles cases originating from Alandur, Adambakkam, Meenambakkam, Mylapore, Mandaveli, Adyar, Mambalam, Vadapalani, Virugambakkam, Ashok Nagar, Velachery, and Madipakkam.

Visitors pointed out that police inquiries at the cybercrime station typically last between three and four hours. Because of the prolonged duration of these sessions, complainants are forced to keep their vehicles parked inside the airport complex for several hours, resulting in heavy parking charges.

The situation is further complicated by the absence of photocopying or printing facilities inside the airport complex. Complainants who need to produce copies of legal documents or complaint materials during an inquiry are forced to leave the airport grounds entirely and travel to nearby commercial zones in Pallavaram, Meenambakkam, Alandur, or Guindy.

When returning to the police station with the required printouts, visitors must re-enter the airport premises, forcing them to pay the airport toll and parking fees all over again. Citing these ongoing logistical issues and added expenses, complainants have appealed to authorities to move the station to Guindy or St Thomas Mount.
