The victim, identified as Manickam Mani, was the son of Vadivelu and resided on Athikulam Street in Mathur near Madhavaram. He was a third-year student at a private college located in Madhavaram.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday when Mani was returning home after attending an Onam celebration programme at his college. Mani and his friends had departed from the college campus on two motorcycles and were travelling towards their homes.
