Coimbatore Man Duped of Rs 55.7 Lakh With False Promises of Airport Job and Gold

The Thudiyalur police have registered a case against a 40-year-old man for allegedly cheating a private firm manager of Rs 55.7 lakh in Coimbatore. The victim, Kalaperumal Albert, who resides on Vellakinaru Road near the Thudiyalur RTO office, was defrauded with false promises of a subsidized multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), seized gold, and a job at the Coimbatore airport.
According to the police, the 40-year-old victim became acquainted with the suspect, identified as Das, at the Living Hope Church in Vilankurichi. During their interactions, Das claimed to be an employee at the city airport and used this purported profile to gain Albert's trust.
Das allegedly offered to secure a brand new MPV for Albert through an airport auction at a highly subsidized price of Rs 15 lakh. In addition to the vehicle, the suspect promised to procure 250 grams of 99.9 percent pure gold, which he claimed had been seized by airport officials, for a sum of Rs 18.50 lakh.
Furthermore, Das guaranteed to secure a job for Albert at the Coimbatore airport. To facilitate the employment process, the victim handed over his educational certificates and other relevant documents to the suspect.
To extract more funds, Das later claimed that he possessed one kilogram of gold worth Rs 56 lakh, inducing Albert to invest even more money. Under the pretext of arranging the vehicle, gold, and airport employment, the suspect collected a total sum of Rs 55.70 lakh from Albert over several instalments.
The transactions were executed through a combination of direct cash payments and bank transfers. After realizing that none of the promises would materialize and that he had been deceived, Albert approached the Thudiyalur police. A case was subsequently registered against Das.
