CMWSSB MD Inspects Water and Sewage Facilities in KK Nagar and Ashok Nagar

Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) Managing Director T. Anand carried out field inspections at the KK Nagar water distribution station and the Ashok Nagar sewage pumping station on Tuesday to review water supply and sewage management operations.

The inspection focused on key civic infrastructure in the city, including the KK Nagar facility located in Ward 136 and the Ashok Nagar pumping station in Ward 135. The KK Nagar installation is recognized as one of the major water distribution hubs in Chennai, possessing the operational capacity to distribute 45 million litres of drinking water on a daily basis.

Water from the KK Nagar station is supplied across an extensive network of residential neighbourhoods. These areas include KK Nagar, Jai Balaji Nagar, MGR Nagar, Ekkatuthangal, Jafferkhanpet, Saidapet, Ashok Nagar, and sections of West Mambalam. In total, the facility's daily water distribution operations serve and benefit approximately 4.66 lakh residents in these parts of the city.

During the visit, Anand also inspected the Ashok Nagar sewage pumping station, which is designed to handle up to 10 million litres of sewage each day. The station receives sewage generated from Ashok Nagar and West Mambalam, which is then pumped into collection wells using 100 HP and 45 HP pumps. From the collection wells, the sewage is conveyed through the designated pipeline network onward to the Nesapakkam sewage treatment plant.

With the northeast monsoon approaching, the Managing Director instructed board officials to prioritize the thorough maintenance of the local sewage infrastructure. He directed personnel to maintain strict vigilance to ensure that any pipeline leaks, blockages, or structural breaks are promptly detected and rectified without disruption.

Chief Engineer A. Radhakrishnan, Superintending Engineer S.P. Jayaprakash, Area Engineer R. Vijaykumar, and other department officials were present alongside the Managing Director during the inspection rounds.
