CM Vijay Hoists Tricolour at Secretariat, Outlines Governance Priorities

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay hoisted the national flag at the state Secretariat in Chennai on Saturday to mark the 80th Independence Day, calling for an honest, transparent administration and a society free of caste and religious barriers.

Addressing the gathering at the 376-year-old fort, Vijay said true freedom is achieved when caste and religious differences disappear and citizens unite. He stressed the need to protect the state from bribery and corruption, affirming that there should be no compromise in public administration.

Reflecting on his administration's first three months in office, the Chief Minister highlighted key decisions taken so far, including waiving crop loans for farmers and shutting down 717 TASMAC liquor outlets across the state. He also confirmed the continuation of welfare initiatives from previous governments, such as the Amma Unavagam canteen scheme and the Breakfast Scheme.

Vijay announced an increase in financial assistance for specific beneficiaries. The aid for differently-abled ex-servicemen has been raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000, while the monthly pension for freedom fighters has been enhanced to Rs 23,000.

On the relationship with the Centre, Vijay stated that the state government is cooperating administratively with the Central Government while continuing to oppose its policies ideologically.

The Independence Day function was attended by Tamil Nadu ministers, actor Trisha, and Vijay's father Chandrasekhar.
