CM Vijay Hoists National Flag at Fort St George on 80th Independence Day

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay hoisted the national flag at Fort St George in Chennai for the first time during the 80th Independence Day celebrations.

Actor Trisha Krishnan attended the state celebration in Chennai, where she was seated alongside the parents of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the official proceedings.

Delivering his address from Fort St George, Chief Minister Vijay spoke on social equality and the true meaning of freedom. He emphasised that collective consciousness and the elimination of societal divisions are essential for genuine independence.

"When people realise that they are being treated like slaves, a sense of unity emerges among them. Everyone begins to come together. Caste barriers will break down, and when caste and religious differences disappear and everyone comes together, that is true freedom," Vijay said in his Independence Day speech.

The Chief Minister also used the occasion to review the decisions taken during his government's initial period in office, highlighting welfare actions implemented over the past three months.

"It has been three months since our government came to power. In these three months, crop loans taken by farmers have been waived, and 717 TASMAC liquor shops have been closed," Vijay stated.
