CM Vijay Deploys TVK Ministers to Counter Opposition in TN Assembly

In Chennai, the ongoing Budget session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has seen Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay deploy a targeted legislative strategy, relying on a core group of ministers to absorb Opposition pressure and lead debates on the floor.

During the session, TVK ministers have repeatedly stepped forward to respond to Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, and other opposition legislators. The discussions in the House have spanned governance, budgetary choices, electoral promises, the dropped Parandur Greenfield Airport row, law and order, NEET, power tariffs and supply, the Cauvery-Mekedatu dispute, and parliamentary delimitation.

Ministers Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand, CTR Nirmalkumar, S Ramesh, and Rajmohan have emerged as the primary responders for the administration. Aadhav Arjuna has taken on a combative role, engaging in frequent exchanges with Udhayanidhi across topics including party funding, lottery controversies, liquor policy, law and order, and allegations concerning the previous DMK administration.

CTR Nirmalkumar, who handles Law and Energy Resources, has regularly intervened during debates, while School Education Minister Rajmohan and HR&CE Minister Ramesh have adopted a more measured approach in questioning the Opposition and defending the government. During debates on the law and order portfolio, which rests with Vijay, ministers including Aadhav Arjuna, Nirmalkumar, and Rajmohan stepped forward to address the criticism.

The sharp debates have led Speaker J C D Prabhakar to intervene repeatedly to maintain order in the House. The Speaker has urged members to stay on the agenda and ordered contentious remarks expunged from the assembly proceedings. Interventions also occurred following remarks from Leader of the House K A Sengottaiyan.

While delegating immediate counter-attacks to his ministerial team, Chief Minister Vijay has directly intervened on significant political matters. His reference to three alleged incriminating files regarding the previous DMK regime led to a direct challenge from Udhayanidhi, while Vijay also personally led the treasury benches during discussions on delimitation and Tamil Nadu's representation in Parliament.
