CM Vijay Congratulates Praggnanandhaa on Historic Grand Chess Tour Title

CHENNAI — Tamil Nadu Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa made history by becoming the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour title, drawing warm praise from Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday.

The 21-year-old Grandmaster clinched his maiden Grand Chess Tour title following a dramatic comeback against American Fabiano Caruana in the final held in St Louis, securing a 15-13 victory.

Praggnanandhaa had entered the final day trailing six points behind Caruana. He mounted a fightback by securing two consecutive wins in the rapid games before maintaining his composure and holding his nerve throughout the blitz section to take the championship.

In a social media post, Chief Minister Vijay congratulated the young Grandmaster for the landmark victory, hailing his extraordinary talent and unwavering perseverance on the international stage.

Vijay stated that Praggnanandhaa demonstrated exceptional mental strength and strategic acumen while competing against some of the world’s best players. He noted that the historic achievement would serve as a major inspiration for young people across the country.

“His magnificent triumph not only instils new hope and inspiration among youngsters but also brings immense pride to Tamil Nadu and India,” the Chief Minister said.
