CM Joseph Vijay Announces Dual Official Celebrations For Tamil Nadu Day

On Saturday, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced in Chennai that the Tamil Nadu government will officially observe dual celebrations to mark both the formation of Madras State and its subsequent renaming to Tamil Nadu. Under this new decision, the state government will officially celebrate November 1, the date Madras State was created in 1956, as well as July 18, the historic day in 1967 when the resolution to rename the state was passed in the Legislative Assembly.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister as part of his "Tamil Nadu Day" greetings to the people. In his message, Chief Minister Vijay highlighted the historical importance of July 18, 1967, when former Chief Minister and Dravidian stalwart C N Annadurai proposed and successfully passed the resolution to rename the state to Tamil Nadu. According to the Chief Minister, this landmark decision was made to honor the antiquity, history, culture, and linguistic pride of the Tamil people.

Chief Minister Vijay paid rich tributes to the selfless martyrs, freedom fighters, and leaders whose sacrifices and struggles paved the way for the creation and naming of the state. He urged citizens to remember their contributions on this historic day.

In addition to announcing the dual celebrations, the Chief Minister urged the public to take a pledge to transform Tamil Nadu into the premier state of India across all sectors. He described the state as the homeland of the classical Sangam language, where values of equality and social justice thrive, and which currently excels in fields such as education, technology, and skilled human resources.

Chief Minister Vijay concluded his message by expressing hope that the sweetness of the Tamil language, the noble culture of the Tamils, and the tradition of humanism would continue to flourish across future generations.
