CM C Joseph Vijay Hands Appointment Orders To 401 Power Department Recruits In Chennai

On Wednesday, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay distributed appointment orders to 401 newly recruited personnel for the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd at the Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. The recruitment drive, which includes 383 assistant engineers and 18 assistant accounts officers, is part of an immediate effort by the state government to address the pressing problem of frequent power cuts and provide better electricity services to the public.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Vijay stepped down from the stage to hand over an appointment order to R Akshaya Lakshmi, a recruit who was in her 40th week of pregnancy. The Chief Minister walked down to her after spotting her in an advanced stage of pregnancy among those waiting to receive their orders, helping her avoid the need to climb the stairs.
All of the 382 electrical engineers and 18 assistant accounts officers were selected by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC). According to the government, the selection was conducted through a transparent recruitment process. An official press release stated that the new appointments reflect the state government's commitment to transparent governance and will help improve the Energy Department's overall operational efficiency.
The recruitment comes after a recent review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, during which his attention was drawn to several problems plaguing the state's Electricity Department. It was noted during the meeting that over 70,000 posts are currently waiting to be filled at various levels across the department.
Following the review, Chief Minister Vijay ordered the initiation of a process to fill at least 15,000 vacant posts within a year. This initiative aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power to the public while also generating employment opportunities for young people in the state.
Several high-level officials attended the event on Wednesday, including State Minister for Energy Resources C T R Nirmal Kumar, Chief Secretary M Saikumar, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Chairman J Radhakrishnan, and Energy Department Principal Secretary Anil Meshram.
