Clifford Miranda Prepares Chennaiyin FC for ISL Season at Taj Connemara

Chennaiyin FC head coach Clifford Miranda is preparing his squad for his second season in charge at the Taj Connemara in Chennai, mapping out tactical formations and structures ahead of the new Indian Super League campaign. The former Indian midfielder returns to the touchline after guiding the club through a difficult 2025-26 season that concluded in May.

At the end of the previous season, Chennaiyin FC finished in 13th place, just one spot above the relegation zone. Following that campaign, Miranda had openly questioned his future at the club due to performance clauses in his contract. However, club management retained him, providing a full pre-season and securing new signings early in the transfer window to match his preferred playing style.

Between seasons, Miranda spent time evaluating team performances and consulting former mentors, including Spanish coach Juan Ferrando. Miranda previously served as an assistant under Ferrando at Mohun Bagan during the 2023-24 season before taking over Chennaiyin FC. Ferrando currently coaches Greek club Panionios, and Miranda noted that the two continue to communicate almost daily as he refines his coaching methods.

A central focus of Chennaiyin FC's preparation is resolving severe goalscoring problems from last season. The team recorded the lowest scoring tally in the league during the truncated 2025-26 campaign, managing just nine goals. To address the issue, the club signed forward Ramon Tanque on loan from Indonesian Super League side PERSIB Bandung. Miranda stated that while Tanque is the squad's only established striker, the team must give the newcomer time to adapt to Indian football.

Chennaiyin FC faces a challenging start to the league calendar, with their first three fixtures scheduled away from home. Their campaign kicks off on Friday with an away fixture against Goa, where Miranda hopes early momentum will lay the groundwork for an improved season.
