Class XII Student Beaten to Death near Tiruvottiyur Bus Terminus in Chennai

A 16-year-old Class XII student was allegedly beaten to death by a group of Class XI students near the Tiruvottiyur bus terminus, adjoining a government school in Chennai, on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Dhanush, a resident of Vasantha Nagar. He was studying at the Jai Gopal Garodia Government Higher Secondary School.

According to preliminary investigations by the police, a group of at least 10 Class XI boys took Dhanush from the school to the nearby bus terminus and assaulted him. Dhanush collapsed and fell unconscious during the assault, after which the group fled the scene.

Onlookers in the area noticed the unconscious boy around 4:45 pm and alerted the local authorities. Police personnel rushed to the spot and immediately shifted Dhanush to the Government Stanley Hospital. Doctors examined him upon arrival and declared him dead.

The police subsequently sent the boy's body for a postmortem examination. To determine the motive behind the fatal attack and piece together the sequence of events, police teams have questioned and recorded statements from witnesses, teachers, and students from the school.

The Thiruvottiyur police have registered a case of murder. Special teams have been deployed and are currently searching for the students involved in the incident.
