Class 12 Student Dies After Assault Near Tiruvottiyur Bus Terminus in Chennai

An 18-year-old student died after allegedly being assaulted by a group of 11 students near the Tiruvottiyur bus terminus in Chennai, adjacent to a school, on Friday evening.
The victim was identified as Dhanush, 18, a resident of Vasantha Nagar in Thiruvottiyur who was studying in the 12th standard at a Government Higher Secondary School. According to police, Dhanush and another 18-year-old student, Dhanushkumar, had earlier had a quarrel over an issue.
Police sources said a few teenagers took Dhanush from the vicinity of the school to the nearby bus terminus, where they assaulted him. The students reportedly fled the scene after finding him unconscious.
Passers-by noticed Dhanush at around 4.45 p.m. and alerted the police. A police team arrived at the spot and shifted him to Government Stanley Hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, doctors examined him and declared him dead on arrival.
The police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Investigators have questioned students, teachers, and other witnesses, recording their statements to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the assault and determine the motive.
The Tiruvottiyur police have registered a murder case and launched a search to locate the students allegedly involved in the attack.
