Chennai's Vembu Technologies Targets $250 Million Revenue in Enterprise Push

Chennai-based software company Vembu Technologies has set a target to achieve more than $250 million in revenue over the next five years, including $200 million from global business, as it accelerates its expansion into the enterprise market.

The company, which specialises in backup, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity solutions, is actively shifting its focus toward becoming a larger enterprise-focused player across domestic and international markets.

Founded in 2002, Vembu Technologies initially concentrated on serving small businesses. Over time, the firm pivoted towards higher-complexity backup use cases across data centres, virtual machines, email systems, and databases.

Sekar Vembu, founder and chief executive of Vembu Technologies, said efforts to move upmarket are gaining momentum, driven by recent success in key mid-market and large-enterprise deals in India.

To support this growth, the company is transitioning from a purely online-led sales model to building channel partnerships and establishing direct engagement for very large accounts.

"We are stepping up our efforts for upmarket customers in India and overseas by building a channel-led approach and hiring business and leadership teams, investing in brand visibility and expanding our product for more complex environments," Sekar Vembu said.

Currently, small and medium businesses account for approximately 80% of the firm's customer base. However, the company is looking to diversify further into enterprise segments to protect against broader industry shifts.

Vembu noted that compliance-heavy and operationally complex environments focusing on large businesses offer better insulation from artificial intelligence-related disruption in the software market, pointing out that software designed for smaller businesses is becoming increasingly commoditised by AI tools.
