Chennai Metro Train to Host Live Music Concert from Koyambedu on Madras Day

A Chennai Metro train will turn into a live concert venue in the early hours of August 22 as part of Madras Day celebrations, beginning its journey from Koyambedu metro station. The special musical service, titled ‘Metrovil Madras Day’, has been organised by Super Chennai in association with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
The dedicated train will depart from Koyambedu, travel towards Chennai airport, and return to Koyambedu. The round-trip journey is expected to last between 45 minutes and an hour, featuring a live on-board performance by Chennai-based band Office Gaana.
According to an official release, the programme will kick off at Koyambedu station with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark Madras Day. Following the ceremonial gathering, participants will board the train for the live music performance.
Participation in the event is free, though entry was restricted to those with prior registration. Public response to the initiative was swift, with organisers confirming that registrations were forced to close within 30 minutes of opening after thousands of people applied to secure a spot on the commemorative ride.
Speaking about the concept, Ranjeeth Rathod, managing director of Super Chennai, said that Madras Day serves as an occasion to celebrate the city, its residents, and the distinct qualities that make Chennai special. He explained that the organisers wanted to offer a memorable experience for the public rather than holding another conventional event.
