Chennai Metro Rail Builds Towering Corridor 5 Viaduct Over Kathipara Flyover

Chennai Metro Rail is currently constructing an engineering-intensive elevated metro rail viaduct directly above the busy Kathipara flyover interchange. The ongoing work on this stretch, which forms a key part of the Madhavaram–Sholinganallur Corridor 5, represents one of the most complex engineering challenges of the entire transit project due to its location over a highly active transport junction.

The under-construction viaduct rises prominently over the Kathipara flyover interchange, creating a striking presence above the bustling area. As the towering elevated structure takes shape, it reflects the massive scale of the Chennai Metro Rail project. The alignment of the viaduct winds directly above the active road interchange, making this section one of the most intricate and technically demanding portions of the network.

This challenging stretch features some of the tallest metro pillars on the Madhavaram–Sholinganallur Corridor 5. The impressive height of these towering pillars is a direct response to the demands of constructing an elevated viaduct while navigating a complex transport interchange below. Building the infrastructure at this height allows the metro line to pass safely over the existing flyover.

The execution of the Chennai Metro Rail viaduct above the Kathipara flyover interchange highlights the overall complexity of building elevated rail infrastructure in a dense urban environment. Every section of this stretch highlights the rigorous technical planning required to carry out construction in such a challenging environment.

As work continues, the engineering-intensive stretch stands out for its towering pillars and its strategic route above one of Chennai’s busiest transport hubs. The integration of this elevated metro infrastructure above the active Kathipara interchange remains a key milestone for the development of Corridor 5.
