Chennai Gets 130 AC Electric Buses Flagged Off at Secretariat

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Tuesday flagged off 130 low-floor, air-conditioned electric buses for use in Chennai at the Secretariat.

The electric buses are part of a larger Rs 1,337 crore initiative dedicated to procuring a total of 750 electric buses to help mitigate air pollution across Chennai.

In total, 250 new buses designated for state transport undertakings were flagged off during the event, including the electric vehicle fleet for the city.

Along with the electric fleet for the capital, 120 new buses were flagged off to be operated by state transport corporations across the rest of Tamil Nadu.

According to an official release, the total estimated value of the 250 newly launched buses stands at Rs 290.08 crore.
