Chennai Corporation Restores Free Wi-Fi at 44 Public Locations

The Greater Chennai Corporation restored free Wi-Fi facilities at 44 public locations across Marina Beach, Besant Nagar Beach, and Secretariat Park on Monday.

Of the 44 restored locations, 27 are situated along Marina Beach between the Labour Statue and the Lighthouse. Five restored points are located at Besant Nagar Beach, and 12 points are stationed at Secretariat Park.

The Wi-Fi poles across these locations were originally installed five years ago. Over time, the equipment had eventually stopped functioning, leading the corporation to undertake measures to bring the service back online.

The restoration is part of the first phase of an initiative by the corporation to provide high-quality free Wi-Fi at high-footfall locations across the city. Targeted areas in this phase include Marina Beach, Besant Nagar Beach, Thiruvanmiyur Beach, Secretariat Park, and various other parks and sports grounds.

To connect to the service, users can activate Wi-Fi on their mobile phones and choose the available network. Visitors must then scan the displayed QR code and enter the OTP received on their registered mobile number to establish the connection. The service is provided entirely free of charge.
