Chennai Clinic Removes Trump Themed Billboard Near US Consulate

A digital billboard referencing US President Donald Trump near the US Consulate in Chennai was recently removed following public debate and pressure, days after it was put up by the Assana Colorectal & Gut Wellness Clinic. The advertisement, which used humor to promote digestive health, was taken down after drawing widespread attention.

The now-removed advertisement featured a bold visual resembling buttocks alongside the caption: "Mr Trump, we're experts in easing painful blockades." The line was a play on geopolitical tensions surrounding the Hormuz blockade amid the Middle East conflict, which the creators used to spotlight the personal issue of gut health.

The campaign is part of a broader effort by the Assana Colorectal & Gut Wellness Clinic to destigmatize conversations around colorectal problems, constipation, and digestive wellness. Dr. Venkatesh Munikrishnan, the founder of the clinic, stated that the idea was to make the topic approachable and humorous because people do not talk about it enough.

The clinic has rolled out several other eye-catching slogans across Chennai. These include "The number one clinic for your number two problems," "Let Elon explore Mars, our mission is Uranus," and "The truth about life is that shit happens every day."

While the other advertisements rolled out without issue, the Trump-themed billboard positioned close to the US Consulate drew immediate scrutiny. The campaign was executed by the creative agency Be Positive 24. Sujatha, the co-founder of the agency, confirmed that they were under some pressure to remove the specific billboard, though she did not elaborate further.

Public reactions to the billboard were divided. Babu Ravi, a regular commuter on the stretch, found the advertisement fun and welcomed the humor. However, Sandhya Selvakumar, a tech professional, expressed discomfort with the tone, calling it worse than constipation. Praveen, an entrepreneur, remarked that mocking Trump directly outside the US Consulate was pushing the limits.

Despite the removal of the billboard, the campaign succeeded in drawing attention to colorectal health, initiating a public dialogue on a traditionally sensitive topic.
