CEC Gyanesh Kumar to Lead Electoral Literacy Meet at Kalaivanar Arangam

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will visit Chennai on Thursday to lead a regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs and Ecinet at Kalaivanar Arangam, according to the Election Commission of India. During his visit, he will also interact directly with booth-level officers from the region.

The day-long conference is being organised by the Election Commission of India in coordination with Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik under the theme ‘Learn Democracy, Lead Democracy’. The initiative seeks to strengthen voter outreach, promote constitutional literacy among young voters, and expand the use of digital platforms across electoral operations.

A high-level delegation from the commission will participate in the programme alongside the Chief Election Commissioner. The visiting delegation includes Deputy Election Commissioner Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal, and Director General (IT) Seema Khanna.

Nearly 1,000 delegates, comprising students, educators, and heads of institutions, are expected to attend the event. The attendees will represent 300 schools, 75 colleges, and 25 universities from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Government officials, including deputy district election officers and district education officers, will also take part in the proceedings.

During the morning session of the conference, Kumar will interact with around 500 booth-level officers to review voter enrolment at the grassroots level, electoral roll verification, and operational feedback. In the afternoon, he is scheduled to address students and educators on democratic participation and electoral literacy, which will be followed by an open question-and-answer session.

The event will also feature live demonstrations of voter registration, polling, and counting processes, along with interactive exhibition panels and election quizzes. Additionally, technology platforms, including ELC 2.0 and the unified Ecinet mobile application, will be showcased as part of the programme.
