CEC Gyanesh Kumar Interacts with First-Time Voters and BLOs in Chennai

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar interacted on Thursday with around 1,000 students and educators, along with over 500 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), at an Election Commission of India (ECI) regional conference held in Chennai.

The conference, which focused on Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) and ECINET, aimed at strengthening youth participation and grassroots electoral preparedness. The event brought together future and first-time voters from 38 districts across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, representing 300 schools, 75 colleges, and 25 universities.

Speaking to media persons following the day-long interactions, the CEC stated that suggestions submitted by first-time voters, BLOs, and other participants during the conference would be examined by the ECI, which will take decisions on them.

The regional conference was held in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik and Chennai Corporation Commissioner GS Sameeran, who also serves as the district electoral officer.

Addressing the assembled students, Kumar urged them to champion democratic values, cultivate informed voting habits, and actively promote voter literacy among their peers.

During his dedicated session with the BLOs, the CEC described them as the backbone of Indian democracy. He reviewed electoral roll updates and assessed voter-service tools during the interaction.
