CBI Team Visits Perambur Crime Scene in K Armstrong Murder Case

A special team from the Central Bureau of Investigation visited the crime scene on Venugopal Samy Street in Perambur on Saturday, where former Bahujan Samaj Party Tamil Nadu president K. Armstrong was murdered.

Investigators from the Special Task Branch inspected the location after officially re-registering the case following directives issued by the Madras High Court. Armstrong was hacked to death by a gang near his residence on July 5, 2024.

The case was initially probed by the Greater Chennai Police, who submitted a 7,411-page chargesheet. However, on September 24, 2025, the Madras High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation to the central agency and quashed the chargesheet filed by the city police. The ruling came on a petition moved by Armstrong's brother, K. Immanuel, who alleged that the local police had failed to conduct a proper investigation.

Although the Supreme Court had temporarily stayed the High Court's directive after the Chennai Police Commissioner filed a Special Leave Petition, the State government recently withdrew the petition.

Following the withdrawal, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Madras High Court order quashing the state police chargesheet remained in effect, paving the way for the CBI to step in and lead the probe.
