Canvas on Chamiers Road Expands with New Cocktails and South-East Asian Evening Menu

Canvas, a 6,000-square-foot establishment located on Chamiers Road in Alwarpet, Chennai, has transitioned from an all-day café into a nightlife destination with the launch of a new evening programme. The expansion introduces a dedicated cocktail menu, an expanded South-East Asian food menu, and a curated weekend music schedule to the almost year-old venue.
Previously located on TTK Road, Canvas moved to its current location at 77, Chamiers Road, RA Puram, Austin Nagar, Alwarpet. The establishment's new evening programme aims to elevate its previous global café format by highlighting South-East Asian flavours and pairing them with crafted cocktails.
Chef de cuisine Boy Syahputra Ginting, originally from Indonesia, heads the kitchen and has designed the expanded food menu to focus on Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese, and Indonesian cuisines. Key dishes include a traditional rendang curry, which Ginting prepares by roasting lamb or taro with coconut, spices, and fresh red chillies for over eight hours. Other menu additions include nasi goreng, sushi, dumplings, Vietnamese rice paper rolls, Philadelphia cigars, and som tam.
To complement the food, Bar Operations manager Thulasiraman has introduced a balanced cocktail menu inspired by Asian ingredients. Featured drinks include the Kyoto Sunrise, a yogurt-washed gin-based cocktail with matcha and vanilla, and the Jasmine Reels, a milk-washed vodka-based drink served with caramelized popcorn. Other offerings include the rum-based Mad Adam and Eye Candy, as well as a smoked, sesame-infused whiskey cocktail called Old Smoke.
The venue's transformation also features a curated music programme designed to move away from high-volume popular playlists. Canvas now leans into genres such as jazz, blues, bossa nova, and indie. A small stage has been set up to host live bands and DJs on weekends, while the weekday soundtrack is curated by DJ Manny, who will also oversee future vinyl listening sessions in the upstairs private event space.
