Burglars break into Ponneri home, steal 70 sovereigns of wedding gold

A gang of burglars broke into the residence of a fancy store owner in the Ponneri area of Chennai, decamping with 70 sovereigns of gold jewellery during the overnight hours of Sunday. The stolen jewellery had been purchased by the family in preparation for the store owner’s daughter’s wedding.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the owner returned to the house and discovered that the lock on his front door had been broken. Upon entering the home, he found that his wardrobe had been completely ransacked and the gold jewellery was missing.
According to the local police, the shop owner had returned home from his place of work at approximately midnight. After locking up his residence, he went to sleep at his mother’s house, which is located directly opposite his own home. The owner's wife and children were out of town at the time of the incident, leaving the house unoccupied overnight.
Following the discovery of the theft on Sunday morning, the owner alerted the authorities. The police arrived at the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation.
As part of their investigation, officers analyzed CCTV footage captured in the surrounding neighbourhood. The footage revealed that two unidentified persons had walked through the street around the time the burglary is believed to have taken place.
The police have registered an official case regarding the housebreak and theft. Law enforcement officials confirmed that active efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the two suspects involved in the crime.
