BJP Chief Nainar Nagenthiran Sparks Controversy with Remarks at Kamalalayam

BJP State President Nainar Nagenthiran triggered a political controversy on Saturday after making remarks at Kamalalayam, the BJP State headquarters in Chennai, regarding Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

Speaking during a book release function at the party headquarters, Nagenthiran stated that while some were searching for their father in the State Assembly, one will know who the real father is only by asking the mother at home. His comment was an indirect reference to an earlier statement made by Chief Minister Vijay in the State Assembly about 'looking for your father', which was itself a veiled reference to the election debacle of former Chief Minister M K Stalin.

The statement drew widespread condemnation, with multiple figures accusing the state BJP chief of denigrating Vijay's mother. Among those criticising the remarks was TVK leader and State Minister Rajmohan. Former BJP president and founder of 'We the Leaders', K Annamalai, also spoke out against Nagenthiran, stating that the remark lowered the dignity of the post he held and sounded akin to a platform speaker taking personal swipes.

Following the backlash, Nagenthiran posted a statement on X claiming that his words had been twisted to gain political advantage. He maintained that he had no ulterior motive to denigrate anyone, adding that he held deep respect for mother, motherland, and mother tongue.

This is not the first time Nagenthiran has faced controversy over remarks involving Vijay. In February, the BJP leader drew criticism after publicly stating that Vijay should come out of the house of actress Trisha, who has co-starred with Vijay in multiple films. After Trisha considered taking legal action over the comment, Nagenthiran apologised for the indiscretion.

The latest remarks have once again triggered anger among political leaders and the public over comments directed at the Chief Minister's mother.
