Birds at Dining Tables and Broken Trolleys Trouble Passengers at Chennai Airport

Passengers at Chennai airport are facing severe inconvenience due to birds entering canteen areas and a widespread shortage of functional luggage trolleys across the facility.

Travellers have complained that birds, including crows and pigeons, freely enter the interior areas of the airport and occupy dining tables in the canteens. With dozens of birds gathering on tables at the same time and competing with each other, passengers report being unable to place their food plates down or drive the birds away. Many travellers stated that the money spent on buying food is wasted and that they often have to go hungry.

In addition to the bird menace, passengers are grappling with a lack of sufficient luggage trolleys. Long queues have formed as travellers wait to find workable trolleys, with many in circulation being broken or damaged. When luggage is placed on damaged trolleys, the baggage often falls onto the floor, forcing passengers to search for working alternatives and transfer their bags.

According to travellers, passengers arriving on flights from Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and London have been among the worst affected by the trolley shortages and delays. Several passengers have taken to social media to share their grievances alongside photographs showing the conditions inside the airport.

Responding to the complaints, airport officials stated that interior areas had previously been closed off with netting, but noted that the nets might have suffered damage in certain spots. Officials assured that the damaged netting would be rectified and that broken trolleys would either be repaired or replaced.
