Artist Rajesh RV Exhibits Nature-Inspired Mixed-Media Art at Adyar Forum Art Gallery

Artist Rajesh RV’s solo exhibition, 'The Magnificent Life', showcasing mixed-media artworks inspired by nature and wildlife, is currently on display at the Forum Art Gallery in Padmanabha Nagar, Adyar. The ongoing exhibition, which runs until August 8, presents a collection of works that envision a harmonious alternate reality where humans and animals coexist in peace, free from greed and the pursuit of power.

The collection challenges conventional artistic mediums. Instead of relying on acrylics or watercolours, Rajesh builds his compositions using mixed-media collage, weaving together fragments cut from newspapers, books, and magazines. This technique creates layered, mosaic-like textures and patterns on each canvas.

According to the artist, the paper fragments bring their own history to the canvas. "Each element reflects the work of many people — from printers, graphic designers, photographers, and models to writers, architects, and technologists," Rajesh said. He added that the paper itself contains natural elements and pigments that merge with the paint.

Rajesh's fascination with nature began in his childhood, when he spent hours watching National Geographic, BBC Earth, and wildlife documentaries with his father starting around the fifth or sixth standard. This lifelong interest shaped the themes of his current collection.

Each canvas in the exhibition is structured around a three-part grid representing different aspects of the universe. The first section is devoted to living creatures like humans and animals, portrayed as peaceful inhabitants of a balanced world. The second section celebrates the intricate beauty of plants, flowers, and trees. The third section focuses on the cosmos, earth, and planets in an abstract format, reflecting how little of them humanity has actually explored.

The color palette of the exhibition features vibrant backgrounds of orange, red, yellow, blue, and grey, while most human figures are depicted in black. Rajesh designed this visual contrast to compel viewers to stop and examine how the colours interact.

The exhibition is open to the public from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm daily, except on Sundays. Entry to the gallery is free.
