Archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna Urges Government to Release Keeladi Report

Archaeologist and former Keeladi excavator Amarnath Ramakrishna has renewed his appeal to the government to publish the Keeladi excavation report, stating that making the findings public is essential to initiate informed public debate and facilitate expert opinion.
Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday on the sidelines of the Makkal Isai Vizha, organised by the Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam in Thanjavur, Ramakrishna confirmed that he has completed and submitted the detailed report on the archaeological findings.
“I have submitted the report. The government should release it for the benefit of the people. Public debate will begin only when it is released,” said Ramakrishna, who currently serves as the director of archaeology in Greater Noida.
Highlighting the historical significance of the discoveries, the archaeologist pointed out that there is clear evidence indicating that civilisation began from Tamil Nadu. He stated that the second phase of urban civilisation emerged from the region and noted that iron was discovered by Tamils, adding that this news is now spreading around the world.
Ramakrishna also asserted the integrity and reliability of the documented material, remarking that scientific and archaeological reports cannot be altered once prepared. “Reports cannot be changed as they are based on evidences. I don’t think my report can be changed. It should be read by people,” he told reporters.
Providing an update on ongoing scientific examinations, Ramakrishna noted that DNA research is currently being conducted at Madurai Kamaraj University in connection with the Keeladi excavations. He expressed confidence that this continuing scientific analysis will pave the way for further research in the field.
Additionally, the former Keeladi excavator called for fresh archaeological excavations to be carried out in the Cauvery delta area to uncover more historical evidence and insights about the Cholas.
