Apollo Teynampet Oncology Unit Converted into Multi-Speciality Hospital

Tamil Nadu Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Dr. K.G. Arunraj on Wednesday announced the transition of Apollo's flagship oncology facility at Teynampet in Chennai into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital. The facility, formerly known as Apollo Cancer Centre, has been officially renamed Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet.

Speaking at the Apollo Hospitals event, Arunraj called for deeper collaboration between the state government and the private healthcare sector to expand public access to quality medical services across Tamil Nadu. He described Apollo as a benchmark in medical excellence and a pride of the state, noting that the government is actively shifting its focus toward disease prevention, health promotion, and wellness under the direction of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Arunraj welcomed the hospital group's willingness to support government health initiatives, particularly in screening programs for general cancer and breast cancer. He also emphasized the necessity of bridging regional healthcare divides by establishing and expanding advanced medical infrastructure in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, as well as rural communities. Arunraj further underscored the importance of medical ethics, empathy, and maintaining the doctor-patient relationship alongside clinical excellence.

Dr. Preetha Reddy, vice chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, noted that families have relied on the Teynampet facility for cancer care for over three decades. She stated that the hospital is leveraging its established oncology expertise to provide full-spectrum healthcare services for entire families as modern medical treatments become more advanced and complex.

Suneeta Reddy, managing director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, explained that the consolidated model provides distinct clinical advantages for patients. She noted that managing chronic and severe illnesses frequently requires multi-organ care, and bringing diverse specialities together under one roof at the Teynampet campus allows multi-disciplinary medical teams to coordinate seamlessly.

Harshad Reddy, director of operations for group oncology and international at Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, outlined the expanded range of departments at the campus. In addition to its dedicated oncology services, the Teynampet hospital now houses cardiac sciences, neurosciences, gastrointestinal and pulmonary medicine, spine and orthopaedics, urology, critical care, and internal medicine.
