Apollo Expands Teynampet Cancer Centre Into Multi-Speciality Hospital

Apollo Hospitals has expanded its flagship oncology facility in Teynampet into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital, renaming the centre Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet. Tamil Nadu Health Minister K.G. Arunraj attended the launch event on Wednesday.

The facility, formerly known as Apollo Cancer Centre, has broadened its clinical scope to offer a wider array of medical disciplines alongside its established cancer care services. The expanded departments include cardiac sciences, neurosciences, gastrointestinal and pulmonary medicine, spine and orthopaedics, urology, critical care, and internal medicine.

Speaking at the launch in Teynampet, Health Minister K.G. Arunraj said Tamil Nadu will progress from treating illnesses to promoting "positive health" while extending advanced medical facilities from Chennai to Tier II and Tier III cities. He noted that the State government has previously focused on constructing hospitals and recruiting doctors and nurses, and the Chief Minister has now emphasized a positive health policy to ensure public access to wellness information regardless of income levels.

The Minister also highlighted partnerships with private healthcare providers, stating that groups such as Apollo have actively collaborated with the government on cancer screening initiatives across the State, particularly breast cancer detection. He added that Apollo Hospitals was among the first organisations to contribute ₹1 crore towards the Nalam TN scheme upon its launch.

Preetha Reddy, Vice-Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., stated that the expansion aims to extend the expertise built over three decades of oncology care into comprehensive healthcare services for families.

Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, explained that the consolidated model allows multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate closely on complex and severe conditions that demand multi-organ management.

Harshad Reddy, Director (Operations, Group Oncology and International), said the expansion reflects the hospital's larger clinical scope by integrating extensive speciality departments with oncology services under one roof.
