Anna Nagar West Records 48.3 mm Rain as Evening Showers Hit Chennai

Anna Nagar West recorded 48.3 mm of rainfall on Sunday evening as several parts of Chennai witnessed light to moderate showers following a weather forecast by the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The evening downpour followed a hot and partly cloudy day across the city. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, rain triggered by convective activity had been forecast to persist across the region until Tuesday.

Data released by the Meteorological Office for the period between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday showed significant precipitation across multiple monitoring stations. Anna Nagar West recorded the highest volume at 48.3 mm, followed closely by Kasimedu with 42.4 mm and Valasaravakkam with 41.4 mm. Okkiam Thoraipakkam recorded 39.6 mm during the same window.

Other areas across the city also logged measurable rainfall figures on Sunday. Madipakkam registered 32.1 mm, Chennai Central recorded 28.2 mm, and Alandur recorded 27.2 mm of rain.

In addition to the heavier spells, several neighbourhoods witnessed intermittent showers and extended periods of drizzling throughout the evening. These areas included Meenambakkam, Thoraipakkam, T. Nagar, Tambaram, and Chintadripet.

The sudden downpour caused water to run along many streets across the city. Key transport corridors such as Rajiv Gandhi Salai and GST Road experienced flooding at their usual waterlogging points following the showers.
