Amit Shah's Helicopters Diverted to Tambaram Base Due to Chennai Rain

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters carrying Union Home Minister Amit Shah were diverted to Tambaram Air Force Station on Sunday afternoon following sudden rains and adverse weather conditions at Chennai airport.

The Union Home Minister was making an onward journey from Puducherry to Delhi and was originally scheduled to arrive at Chennai airport via the two IAF helicopters at around 3:26 pm. However, a sudden shift in weather conditions in Chennai prompted officials to divert the aircraft as a safety precaution.

According to an official report on the Home Minister's movement, the two helicopters safely landed at the Tambaram Air Force Station minutes apart, with the first landing at 3:31 pm and the second at 3:36 pm. Airport sources confirmed that the decision to reroute the helicopters was taken due to the sudden rain and changing weather, with the safety of the VIP movement being the primary concern.

The unexpected diversion briefly created tension at Chennai airport, where police and security personnel were making arrangements for the Home Minister’s expected arrival and transit.

Following the landing at the air station, the Tambaram police informed airport authorities that Shah would travel to Chennai airport by road. After completing the road journey, Shah reached Chennai airport and boarded an IAF aircraft bound for Delhi, which departed at 4:54 pm.

In addition to the disruption of the Home Minister's journey, the adverse weather conditions and rains in Chennai caused delays for a few other flights at Chennai airport on Sunday.
