Amit Shah Terms Congress Resolution on Vande Mataram Anti-National at Mamallapuram

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a sharp attack against the Congress party, describing its decision to restrict the singing of Vande Mataram to two stanzas as "anti-national." Shah made the remarks in Mamallapuram on the sidelines of the South Zone Chief Ministers' Conference.

Responding to the Congress Working Committee's resolution regarding the national song, Shah accused the party of reviving what he termed its decades-old "politics of appeasement." Speaking to the news agency ANI, he alleged that the Congress had historically split Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's national song in 1937 for Muslim appeasement, which he claimed laid the groundwork for India's partition.

Shah contrasted the stance of the opposition party with the approach taken by the Narendra Modi-led government. He highlighted that the ruling dispensation had legally framed and restored the full version of Vande Mataram in an effort to strengthen national unity across the country.

Targeting the opposition leadership directly, the Union Home Minister expressed surprise over Rahul Gandhi driving what he described as a revival of appeasement politics. Shah stated that the country had previously paid a heavy historical price for dividing the national song.

Concluding his remarks, Shah asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemned the Congress Working Committee's move and called on the nation to unite against the decision.
