Amit Shah Confers President's Colours on Puducherry Police, Highlights UT Growth

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conferred the President’s Colours upon the Puducherry police on Sunday, emphasizing that the Union government remains committed to the overall development of Puducherry. Speaking during the official ceremony, Shah highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on strengthening Union territories across the nation and driving key developmental projects in the region.

Addressing the gathering at the event, Shah presented comparative figures regarding Union government allocations to Puducherry over different time periods. He stated that successive Union governments had provided a total of ₹3,500 crore to Puducherry for developmental works between 1950 and 2014. In comparison, Shah stated that the Modi government has provided ₹13,762 crore for Puducherry's development over the last 12 years, an amount he noted is nearly four times the funds allocated during the preceding six decades.

Shah also detailed major economic and infrastructure initiatives supported by the Union government in Puducherry. He stated that over the past nine years, the Union government has facilitated industrial investments totaling ₹39,000 crore in the Union territory. On the infrastructure front, Shah cited the four-laning of National Highway 332-A, covering the Marakanam-Puducherry section, which has been undertaken at a project cost of ₹2,200 crore. Additionally, he noted that the Union government constructed an extended runway for the airport, which spans approximately 3,400 metres in length and 45 metres in width.

Highlighting legislative and systemic reforms brought by the BJP government, Shah spoke about the implementation of three new criminal laws enacted to replace legacy British-era legal codes. According to Shah, these new laws are established on three foundational pillars: technology, timeline, and trust. He elaborated that these measures are not merely punitive in nature, but rather aim to ensure that citizens receive justice in a time-bound and technology-enabled manner.
