AIADMK Opposes TVK Assembly Resolution on Delimitation, Backs Women Quota

AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday announced in Chennai that his party opposed the resolution brought by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Assembly regarding delimitation, alleging that it had been introduced for political reasons.

Palaniswami clarified, however, that the AIADMK supported the section of the resolution that calls for a 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

Addressing the party's position on delimitation, Palaniswami stated that Tamil Nadu should not suffer a reduction in its representation in Parliament after successfully controlling its population growth.

He added that if Tamil Nadu’s 7.18 per cent share is maintained, the state could potentially gain around 20 additional Lok Sabha seats, bringing its total representation to 59 seats.

Palaniswami reiterated that the AIADMK’s official stance is that Tamil Nadu’s existing representation in Parliament must not be reduced, but should instead be increased by 50 per cent.
