Actor Vishal Calls for Equal Action Following Detention of Udhayanidhi Stalin

Tamil actor Vishal has stated in Chennai that the same action and standards should be applied to everyone who makes inappropriate comments about women in the film industry, following the brief detention of Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin earlier this month.

Udhayanidhi Stalin was released after being questioned for about an hour by police at Sengipatti Police Station in Thanjavur district. His detention came after protests erupted over alleged remarks he made regarding actor Trisha during a Cauvery rights demonstration.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Vishal acknowledged that such incidents happen in political scenarios, but stressed that equal action must be taken against others who speak ill of female actors. He noted that many people on YouTube openly make below-the-belt comments targeting women in the film fraternity, and urged that everyone guilty of such behavior receive the same treatment and punishment.

The controversy originally began when Udhayanidhi was addressing a gathering during a Cauvery rights protest. As some people in the crowd began chanting "Trisha, Trisha", he allegedly responded with a double-meaning remark before later stating that he was referring to Cauvery water.

Following the remarks, the women's wing of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) lodged a complaint with the Thanjavur Police, alleging that the DMK leader had made a double-entendre remark targeting actor Trisha. However, the DMK has maintained that Udhayanidhi's statements were misrepresented and were directed at government functioning rather than any individual.
