AC Mechanic Arrested for Bike Thefts Near Maraimalai Nagar Railway Station

A 41-year-old air conditioning mechanic was arrested by the Maraimalai Nagar police in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts reported around the Maraimalai Nagar railway station near Chengalpet. Following his apprehension, the police seized six stolen two-wheelers and a mobile phone from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Kesavan, a resident of Guduvanchery. The police action followed a series of complaints lodged over the past few days concerning two-wheelers going missing from the railway station premises and surrounding neighbourhoods.

To identify and locate the suspect, an investigating team examined footage gathered from more than 150 CCTV cameras installed across the locality. The continuous analysis of the video trails allowed the police to trace Kesavan to a house in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board locality in Guduvanchery, where he was taken into custody.

During questioning, Kesavan informed the investigators that he worked as an AC mechanic. According to the police, the accused had adopted a specific method to avoid detection: he dismantled the stolen motorcycles instead of selling them as complete vehicles. The dismantled vehicle parts were subsequently transported to Pudupet and sold.

The Maraimalai Nagar police formally arrested Kesavan and remanded him in judicial custody. Officers noted that further investigation is currently underway to ascertain whether other individuals were involved in carrying out the motorcycle thefts or facilitating the sale of the dismantled parts.
