Aadhav Arjuna Announces Rs 947 Crore NH 75 Four-Laning Project in Assembly

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna announced a highway four-laning project estimated at Rs 947.46 crore during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly. The initiative aims to upgrade a 43.16-kilometre stretch of National Highway 75 between Pathalampalli and Latheri into a four-lane road.

The announcement came during an extensive discussion on state road infrastructure, where legislators across party lines raised demands for bypass roads, high-level bridges, and junction upgrades to address rising traffic congestion and fatal accident rates. Responding to these concerns, the minister informed the House that Detailed Project Report works have already been initiated across key industrial corridors and high-risk accident zones.

The proposed NH 75 upgrade incorporates an 11.85-kilometre bypass route spanning 13 villages. Land acquisition for the corridor is currently underway. The project proposal also includes the construction of new bridges, culverts, and major junction improvements, and is awaiting final administrative approval.

Minister Arjuna revealed that 182 MLAs have submitted formal requests for bypass infrastructure in their respective constituencies. He assured the Assembly that the government is systematically addressing these demands and undertaking project reports to resolve regional traffic bottlenecks.

Several legislators voiced specific infrastructure needs during the session. Former Chief Minister and DMK member O Panneerselvam requested dedicated bypass roads to relieve severe bottlenecks along the Madurai-Theni corridor, especially at Usilampatti and Andipatti. CPI member T Ramachandran sought bypass infrastructure to manage heavy commercial vehicle movements from nearby industrial hubs, while Cumbum MLA Jagannath Mishra flagged frequent fatal accidents and sought bypass solutions.

Additionally, AIADMK member Arunmozhi Devan requested a roundabout or elevated flyover to curb recurring crashes at major intersections. In response to PMK legislator G Kumar's request for a high-level bridge linking Agaracheri and Koodanagaram, the minister noted that the proposal is in its initial evaluation stage. TVK MLA V Sathyabama also highlighted the need for road widening and surface strengthening on the Tiruppur–Sirupuluvapatti to 15 Velampalayam stretch.
