80-Year-Old Woman Murdered in T Nagar Flat, Domestic Help Arrested

An 80-year-old woman living alone was found murdered inside her apartment on Kuppusamy Street in T Nagar on Friday. Pondy Bazaar police arrested her domestic help and detained two accomplices in connection with the crime, while also recovering 12 sovereigns of stolen gold jewellery.

The victim, identified as Radha, had resided for the past seven years in a private apartment complex on Kuppusamy Street following the demise of her husband, Krishnamoorthy, who was a geologist. Her eldest son lives in the United States, her daughter works as a lawyer in Delhi, and her younger son, Ramji, a retired pilot, lives in Chennai.

The incident came to light at around 10am on Friday when Radha's 31-year-old domestic help, Ammu, reported that repeated knocks on the apartment door went unanswered. Ammu alerted a neighbour named Rathna, who then contacted Ramji.

Upon arriving at the scene, Ramji opened the locked apartment and discovered his mother lying dead on a sofa in the living room. The victim had sustained injuries to her face and neck, and a pillow was found lying near the body.

Pondy Bazaar police were notified of the murder and subsequently sent the body to the Government ESI Hospital in KK Nagar for a post-mortem examination.

During the preliminary probe, investigators discovered that food ordered by Radha on Thursday evening had been delivered around 6.30pm. Based on this timeline and scene evidence, police suspect that the murder took place on Thursday between 4pm and 6pm.

Following the investigation, police arrested Ammu and took her two accomplices into custody, recovering the stolen 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery.
