55-Year-Old Passenger Collapses and Dies at Chennai Airport Metro Station

A 55-year-old passenger returning from a trip to Sri Lanka collapsed and died on Thursday evening at the Chennai Airport premises, following a suspected sudden cardiac arrest. The deceased has been identified as Syed Sirajudeen, a resident of Broadway in Chennai, and his body was subsequently sent to the Tambaram government hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to officials, Sirajudeen had arrived at the airport after a tourist visit to Sri Lanka. After completing his immigration and customs clearance formalities inside the terminal, he proceeded toward the Metro rail station located within the airport complex to take a train back home to Broadway.

While walking on the first floor near the Metro ticket counter, Sirajudeen suddenly collapsed on the floor. Fellow commuters and Metro station personnel who witnessed the incident immediately raised an alarm and notified the Chennai Airport medical team.

The emergency medical team rushed to the spot and administered first aid in an effort to resuscitate him. However, their attempts were unsuccessful, and medical personnel declared him dead at the scene. Attending doctors suspect that he suffered a sudden and severe cardiac arrest.

The airport police were notified of the death and arrived at the Metro station to take charge of the situation. Officers secured the area and sent the body to the Tambaram government hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the precise cause of death. The airport police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The incident was one of two fatalities reported at the airport on the same day. Earlier on Thursday, an Assam-based passenger who was travelling on a flight from Guwahati to Chennai to seek medical treatment reportedly died on board the aircraft.
