4 Arrested After 23-Year-Old Man Hacked to Death in Thaiyur Near Kelambakkam

A 23-year-old man died after being attacked with weapons by a group in Thaiyur near Kelambakkam following a dispute over his relationship with a woman, leading to the arrest of four suspects.

Police identified the victim as Praveen Kumar, son of Karunakaran, residing in Chinnama Nagar in Thaiyur. Praveen was employed at a private company.

The incident took place around 10 pm on August 16 while Praveen was talking on his mobile phone near his residence. A group of men arrived at the location in a car and approached him under the pretext of asking for directions. Three men then stepped out of the vehicle and attacked him with sickles, inflicting severe injuries to his head, arms, and back.

Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing his cries, prompting the assailants to flee. Praveen was subsequently transported and admitted to a private hospital in Kelambakkam.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that Praveen had been in a relationship with the daughter of Ezhumalai, 48, a TVK functionary residing in Thaiyur. Investigators suspected that the woman's parents and relatives opposed the relationship.

Kelambakkam police initially registered a case of attempt to murder and arrested three individuals: Ezhumalai, his 31-year-old relative Manikandan, and 19-year-old Nandeesh. All three were remanded in judicial custody.

Following the attack, the victim's relatives staged a road blockade demanding immediate action against everyone involved in the crime. Police later arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the fatal assault.
